Help nature recover

What are Connected Habitats?

Connected Habitats are fabricated habitat panels designed to be mounted on walls, fences and buildings. Each panel is a refugia — a structure filled with natural materials like logs, stones, bark and seed heads that provide nesting, overwintering and foraging habitat for bees, beetles, butterflies and other invertebrates.

They come in any shape: letters, logos, geometric forms or organic designs. The steel framework is powder coated to any standard RAL colour, so they work as both a visual feature and a functioning piece of urban ecology.

Why use them?

Cities fragment nature. Green roofs help reconnect it — but not every surface is a roof. Connected Habitats extend that thinking to vertical surfaces, turning blank walls and boundaries into stepping stones in a living landscape of pollinators and birds.

They’re particularly useful for meeting biodiversity net gain requirements on commercial projects, or for adding ecological value to sites where a green roof isn’t feasible.

How they work with green roofs

We often install Connected Habitats alongside our green roof projects to create a more complete habitat network. A wildflower roof provides foraging. A habitat panel provides nesting and shelter. Together they support a wider range of species than either would alone.
