Lee Evans
Green roof specialist, consultant and educator
I help people make informed decisions about green roofs: what to specify, how to establish a thriving roof, and what to do when an existing one isn’t working.
As founder of Organic Roofs and Green Roof Revival, I bring practical installation and maintenance experience to technical advice. My work connects the building, its growing conditions and the habitat you want to create.
Based in Sussex, working with homeowners, architects, contractors and property managers across the UK.
How I can help
Choose a starting point below. I’ll help you define the scope and next steps.
Diagnostic inspections and recovery
I assess your roof’s vegetation, drainage and visible details, explain likely causes of problems and plan its recovery. I also prepare photographic condition and defect reports to support insurance claims and decisions about remedial work. Recommendations can include vegetation recovery and ongoing care.
Specification support
I help you get your green-roof specification ready to go to market. Through Project Surgery, I review your plans, planting and build-up options, resolve outstanding questions and clarify what contractors need to price. You receive practical recommendations to brief your chosen installer.
Leak investigation and repair
I investigate green-roof leaks and help you agree a targeted repair. Through Green Roof Revival, I arrange the remedial work needed, explain what it involves and provide clear advice on caring for the affected area afterwards.

Practical experience, shared

For several years I co-taught green-roof courses with James Farrell, combining practical construction with the principles behind successful living roofs. I have also taught students working with Dr Stephan Brenneisen at ZHAW Zurich University of Applied Sciences, contributing practical green-roof experience to their green-infrastructure learning.
My approach has been strongly influenced by the Swiss green-roof community, particularly Nathalie Baumann, whose work was a great inspiration to me, alongside Dr Stephan Brenneisen and Magdalena Gerner (née Mioduszewska).
My work has included collaboration with Duncan Baker-Brown on bringing Swiss lightweight meadow-roof methods into UK practice. I also appeared on Channel 5’s Cowboy Builders to explain the benefits of green roofs.

Nature, health and public spaces
Through The Human Nature Partnership, my work with James Farrell extends to nature connection, biodiversity and wellbeing for NHS trusts and public bodies. This includes the partnership’s feasibility study for Kent & Medway NHS & Social Care Partnership Trust, exploring how its outdoor spaces could support staff, patients and wildlife.
Discuss your roof with me
Tell me about your roof, the decision you need to make and any deadlines. I’ll suggest the right next step and confirm the scope before work starts.
